Interlibrary Loan Services (ILL)

Alvernia University students, faculty, and staff can request books and articles not available at Franco Library through our Interlibrary Loan service.

  • Materials requested through Interlibrary Loan often arrive in a few days, but may take 2 weeks or more to obtain.

  • You will be notified via email when the item arrives.

  • There is generally no charge for requesting books or articles from other libraries.

Note: The library is unable to borrow textbooks or course materials currently used in classes because this may violate copyright law.

How to Request an Article

  • Use our Interlibrary Loan service to request materials.

  • Before requesting an article, check the Journal Finder search to make sure the library does not own or have electronic access to the journal you need.

    • Simply type in the journal title and search!

How to Request a Book

  • Before requesting a book, check the Library Catalog to make sure the library does not have a print or electronic copy of the title.

  • If Alvernia does not have a print or digital copy of the book, use our Interlibrary Loan Service service to request it.

  • Providing the title, author, and publication date will help the library locate the correct book. If you do not have a full citation for it, searching the title under Books in WorldCat may help you locate a more complete record to fully populate the ILL request.

  • Books are delivered to the Franco Library through the mail. You will be notified to pick up your book when it arrives. Special arrangements can be made for pickup at the Pottsville or Reading CollegeTowne campuses.
