Barry Nelson was a Class of 1950 classmate of John Updike at Shillington High School. As a boy, he taught John Updike how to play basketball and baseball. As an adult, he taught English at Governor Mifflin High School. He was also the Shillington Borough historian and authored two books on local history.

This series consists of his personal research notes on John Updike and his relationship to Shillington. Two copies of these notes are known to exist. Permission for this copy was given by Nelson to David Silcox.
